The Black & Blue Marlin Tournament (the oldest of the three) was started by the Brisbee family in 1981, and its humble beginnings have now grown to a tournament with thousands of participants and millions of dollars in prizes. Its name “Black & Blue” comes from objective of the contest - catching the heaviest black and blue marlin. The tournament also gives out special awards to the best teams and best captains, taking into account the points from other species catches too. Contestants and spectators soak in five days of excitement and activities, as the marina fills up with shoppers, parties, and tournament weigh-ins at the Puerto Paraiso Plaza.
